長年に渡り蒐集を重ねてきた私共のモリニエ・コレクションは、画廊準備室時代よりすでに高い評価を頂戴してまいりましたが、本展は著名なモンタージュ写真、写真のためのエスキース、立体、印象主義の影響をとどめる貴重な所期絵画を含む５０点あまりの展示をもって、最初の本格的な総括と致す所存です。
８０年代以降欧米を中心に真剣な再評価が始まったモリニエについては、もはや贅言は無用かと存じます。生前は異形のシュルレアリストとして知られていたこのジェスイット教徒の成り損ないは、ピストル自殺であっけなく亡くなるまでの間、鮮烈にして倒錯的なエロティシズムの擁護者というレッテルに甘んじてきました。しかしながら、女装癖、サデズム、同性愛の場面が頻出するその奇妙な作品群は今日においては、性の多形態主義という局面で捉えなおした時、身体に向けた新たな錯乱的問いかけを投げかけてくるものと思われます。特にその身体との遊技に結びついた独自のエロティシズムは、人間の欲望の取る多様な形態を通過しつつ、それらを相互に侵犯し変容せしめるという快楽を執拗に喚起するものに他なりません。もっとも、こうした試みが多くの人々に理解されるようになるには、森村泰昌やシンディ・シャーマンを始めとする、時代の秀れたアーティスト達の出現を待たねばならなかったのであり、恐らくここにモリニエの“先駆者としての孤独”があったと申せましょう。　



PIERRE MOLINIER

Gallery Naruyama is proud to present Pierre Molinier. Though our collection has been reciveing high acclaim from the preperation days of the gallery, this marks the first full-scale exhibition; composed of roughly 50 works, from famous montage photographs to esquisses and sculptures. Earlier works retain influences from impressionism, reminding us of Molinier’s close ties and relations with key players of the movement. Until his death by suicide, he had been labeled as a vivid pervert and an addict to eroticism. But as he gained much reconsideration and attention in Europe during the 1980s, Molinier’s work exceeds such misinterpretations and offers a view which questions sex, through sexual manipulation. Frequent references to sadism, homosexuality and cross dressing tie together with his unique sense of eroticism, displaying desires beyond the realm of fantasies. It seems the public had to wait for such talented artists as Yasumasa Morimura and Cindy Sherman to fully grasp and begin to understand Molinier’s attempts.
As they say, Molinier must have truly and painstakingly felt the “loneliness of a pioneer”.
