Augustin Rebetez (b.1986) lives and works in Mervelier, Switzerland. He works in various media including painting, photography, video, sculpture, installations and mobiles. He is developing a universe populated by characters, chimeras and peculiar machines which reflect his imagination. Inspired by outsider and folk art brut as well as tribal design, he constructs a multifaceted body of work that defies categorization. His creations swing between dream and nightmare. He is a modern alchemist and a magician, plays with movement and sound, transforming banal reality into poetic fiction.
Since 2009, he has exhibited all over the world (Europe, Canada, South Korea, Japan, Nigeria, Mexico, Lebanon, etc.). The Rencontres photographiques d’Arles in 2011 marked a milestone in his work, as did the Sydney Biennale in 2014. He received the Vevey International Photography Prize that same year. In 2016, he was invited to create an installation for the Tinguely Museum in Basel.
